Chemung Finale Falls to Rain; INEX Champions Announced by Carol Houssock
The anticipated season finale wasn’t to be due to a very rainy forecast for Sunday afternoon. Race fans were denied the opportunity of watching the New York Super Stocks, GRIT Dirt Sportsman, and INEX divisions to cap off the 2017 season. There is no rain date. With the three NASCAR track championships having been settled the prior week (Jimmy Zacharias, Sunoco Modifieds), Nick Robinson (Super Stocks), and Jacob Gustafson (4 Cylinders), the formality of declaring the INEX champions was all that was left for the regular divisions.... The three NASCAR home track divisions at Chemung Speedrome settled the season-long championship chases on a night paying double points across the board. Normally 67 points are available for a driver who can win a heat (5), lead a lap (1), lead the most laps (1) and then win the feature (60). Things were doubled Saturday night, making a maximum of 134 available. Tabulations were especially needed in the Super Stock division, where things were especially close. Thunderstorms Wash Out Chemung; Championships on the Line This Saturday Night by Carol Houssock
TA forecast of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening was enough to pull the plug on Chemung Speedrome’s scheduled program Saturday night. While the skies remained partly cloudy for most of the day the sky opened up and it poured at what would have been race time. With so few races remaining on the schedule and so many close point chases, drivers had hoped it would not all boil down to a double points race. Unfortunately for some competing in the three NASCAR divisions, that is how 2017 will shake out. Things are looking pretty good for.... Full Story

Anyone who shook hands or chatted with Jimmy Zacharias (Sunoco Modifieds), Nick Robinson (Super Stocks), Zack Bennett (4 Cylinders), Kevin Youngs (INEX Legends), or Garrett Zacharias (Bowen Racecars Bandoleros) did so with the eventual winners during the annual Meet & Greet at Chemung Speedrome.
